the-collection-of-oddities: Beautiful Victorian mourning jewelry. Upon the death of a loved one, (most often a widow and her husband) women would pluck the hair from their head and incorporate it into a ring, necklace, bracelet, broach, or anything worth wearing. It was a typical Victorian Era practice to keep hair because hair is ever-lasting and they symbolized hair for immortality. It was the only part of the human body that kept and didnt decompose.
